![]() Ubuntu is a Nguni Bantu term meaning "humanity". It is often translated as "I am because we are," or "humanity towards others", but is often used in a more philosophical sense to mean "the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity".
Mrs. Robberson has incorporated Kennedy Elementary's theme, UBUNTU, into the counseling program in an effort to create a culture of community among staff, students, and their families. |

Kennedy's Grand Opening of our
Meditation Room!!!
Norman Regional Hospital partnered with Manhattan Building Excellence to provide a beautiful space for Kennedy kids and staff! This room has been carpeted, painted, and equipped with 25 yoga matts. Our goal is to use this space to promote mindfulness training for students and staff. This will be a quiet place to practice self regulation, awareness, small group yoga, and many other skills to enhance the learning environment here at Kennedy Elementary.
"It has been our pleasure to work with Kennedy and Manhattan in the modeling of the Meditation Room. Our mission at Norman Regional is to serve our community in both health and wellness care. I personally love helping kids because they are our future and we need to be the example and lead in a positive, healthy way." - Amanda Jesse at Norman Regional Hospital |

The University of Oklahoma Human Relations Department is partnering with Kennedy Elementary on a project called "The Buddy Bench." This project focuses on inclusion and teaches kids to "include" instead of "excluding" other students. First and second grade students are taught to sit on the "Buddy Bench" when they feel left out. Other students are trained to look for kids on the bench and to invite them to play. This project emphasizes positive peer pressure. Human Relations majors at OU are required to take a class called "Service Learning." Through this course, OU students have the opportunity to work with community organizations so they can apply their degree in the real world. For this project, OU students teach an interactive curriculum to the elementary students and go to recess one time a week to work with the kids on how to use the "Buddy Bench." The faculty sponsor is: Dr. Janna Martin. The student team includes: Alexis Romero, Morgan Kanaly, Olivia Burgin, Savvy Hart, Caroline Mueller, and Emily Bundy.
